Hello all. As I'm getting started into this hobby I have purchased all my supplies from hobby lobby. I got a 16x jewelers loupe which works great after getting accustomed to the way the magnification works. I also got two of the 35 package 2x2 holders and the starter kit. I am wondering if anyone knows anything about these products. My concern would be acid damage and any possible contaminants from PVC damage in the mylars. If anyone in the north fort worth area has any suggestions for supplies I would be interested in knowing, Thank you

I think all should be fine from HL. Did you know they offer a coupon on-line for something like 40% off? If there is a coin shop near you the prices might be lower on the 2x2's.A 16x loupe is a bit strong, you should start out with a 10x for general viewing and a 14x for errors/varieties.

Here is the page for the coupon
http://www.hobbylobby.com/weekly/coupon.cfm
good from Monday to Saturday of each week, Closed Sundays for those that may not know.
You can only use one at each purchase, but I have made numerous trips through the store over a half hour.

When I started my kids in the hobby, we bought albums , 2X2's and coin tubes at Hobby Lobby and had good luck with all of our supplies, prices were in line or lower than the local coin shops. That is until HL execs got very vocal on social issues I disagreed with, so I no longer shop there.

Thank you all for the sound advice. Wish I knew about the loupe magnification before I purchased mine. I still am having fun using it. And that is one reason I also go to hobby lobby is because of the coupon. It is about three miles away so it gives me a reason to stop by the four banks on the way there. Thank you again for the replies.

Questions like yours makes me wonder about something. Do all Hobby Lobby stores carry the same merchandice? Made from the same companies? Similar prices? The reason I mention this is some time ago I heard about them having coin collecting items. I went to the only one in my area and they did not have any coin, stamp, etc. types of items at all. I asked the people that work there and they told me they only carry what they think sells in this area.
Not sure if Hobby Lobby is a separate store, owned separately and paying for the name. OR is it ia franchise that is SUPPOSED to carry the same merchandise.
In many places just because a place carries something, may well not be the same at other places with the same name.
Would be interesting to find out.

They'll never really know what they have in stock as they don't do barcode tracking either... for odd reasons. :-)

They are a family run company, They have had a run in with the fed. Due to their religious and moral beliefs. They all are closed on Sundays to give their employees a chance to worship with their families if they wish. the local store has a sign displayed at the entrance that they have bible study of some kind in a meeting room at the store weekly. They do stand by their convictions.
All the items sold for coins, stamps and trading cards @ the local store in Sterling Heights Michigan are name brands that are sold on line and at coin shops.
Since store stock is by regional preference (what hobbies are big in the area)there will wide variances in the items and selection of stock.
Shop there if you care to, they also have lots of other interesting items. Including great prices and weekly sales on hanging wall displays and frames. They wall display boxes also work well on tables laying flat. 40 to 50% off with out coupons.

I have bought some coin folders and 2X2s at HL, and they are fine from what I have seen. Unfortuantely, in my area all we have are We Buy Gold places. :(
