This guy has made an appearance twice lately on the "Guess the Emperor" thread. I think I guessed an empress and BenByfield had a stroke.

Anyway, with that fresh in my mind I was happily surprised to find one in a little shop down an alleyway where I live. Not many ancient coins in my neck of the woods other than shipwreck coins (with many fakes). I'm sure I overpaid but what the heck, it's a beautiful coin! Nice and hefty too, 8.3 gm, 20mm, ~3mm thick.

I might get rid of some of the exuberant verdigris though. Not all of it, just carefully smooth the rough parts down.

nice! I traded mine away...a lot of them dont have patinas because the locals that dig them up dont know any better - quicker and easier for them to remove it all. This ones got a nice glossy sheen to it.

i noticed this but didn't know why. I have several cheapie indogreeks with no or little patina and see them frequently.
