I did my weekly LCS visit to go through the generic silver box on Thursday. There were about a dozen lonely little pieces in the box and I don't think I've ever seen the box so empty before. Most of the few pieces there were of no interest to me, but I ended up buying a 1992 1/4 oz Onza and a 2000 1/20 oz Libertad.
I haven't been able to find much info on the 1/20 oz Libertad. Do they actually issue this tiny thing as a serious member of the Libertad family or is it sold only as part of an annual set? Do they still make this little thing? It only cost me $1.40 (premium and sales tax included) so I'm not too worried about my investment or possible return on it, but I would like to know more about the coin.
Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help.

The Mexican mint issues many fractional sets and many fractional Libertads. It is an infuriating series to collect because some years they make fractionals and for no reason, some years they don't.
The ones they do make are usually of very low montages. What year did you get?

At a $1.40 which = $28oz, I'd be buying that all day and then...tomorrow also Your guy surely likes you because that was a gift plus the fact that its a 2000 which adds even more to the value. Don't forget Libertads are not minted in crazy numbers like ASE's http://www.bullionbourse.com/#!/~/p...&id=19303342

under $30/oz I'd buy all fractionals I could carry out Denco is right, some are pretty rare and considered key dates ...

Yeah--I've seen that those little things go through ebay for $6+, so I definitely did OK on that big, daring $1.40 buy that I made. I honestly wish my guy had had a baggie of 50 or 100 of those little specks. I would've bought them all without hesitation.

To the best of my knowledge, for each the proof and BU version, they have made Libertad fractions in each denomination (1/20, 1/10, 1/4, and 1/2) each year (except in 2012 there was no 1/20) since 1991. Mintages can be found either here or on their mint website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertad_(coin).

The 1/20 is smaller than a dime. 16 mm compared to just under 18 for a dime. The 1/10th is about the diameter of a nickel.

Speaking of libertads , does anyone know the mintage's of the different sizes ? I have five 5oz libertads , was wondering how many were made year to year.

BB, yeah, just about the size of a Half Dime. They're comically small, but fun to have anyway. And think, they have that size in proof and BU. Northerncoins, the mintages for the 5 oz can also be found at the same wiki site I mentioned above.

My 5oz coins are 2013 but it gives me a round about figure from the previous years. thanks. The Proof 5 oz coins have a much lower mintage....hmm maybe I will get some of those next time.

Here is an oddity I picked up along the way. It is 1997 1/4, 1/10. amd 1/20 and called the "Silver Victory Angel Coin Collection." Not sure why only those 3 coins were included and not the whole set. And there is no indication at all as to who made and put this together. Unfortunately the coins are beginning to tone.
