Byrons walk, well, the eastern part of it. He was a man slag but hid loads of 'treasure' on the eastern part of what is called Byrons walk... ten minutes on there would make me sexually active for the rest of my days!!

Wow! Awesome responses so far! I'd love to search around old castle ruins in Europe. In America I think it would be cool to find a history of robbed stagecoaches along known trails and roads. Ghost towns in Texas, Kansas, Colorado, etc... or an extended trek into the Rockies to search around miner's cabins or Gold Rush towns.
On a different note, I think it would be fascinating to tour WWII sites like Omaha Beach. I read a story about a guy who uncovered two MP-42 barrells from an area on Omaha and they turned out to be from a soldier who wrote a book claiming to have killed over 1000 american soldiers. I can't remeber his name but was pretty eerie.
Just out of curiosity has anyone ever done roadside searches of known armored car crashes? I don't know exactly how often they have happened but I do recall hearing about at least a few where people were pulling over and scrambling for coins and money. Do they do a routine Met search of the area after a crash like that?

rking007, a few yrs back I read a news article of a semi carrying canadian quarters for the winter olympics I believe that crashed on a highway out in the countryside. The 2 drivers didn't even know what they were shipping until they woke up covered in quarter rolls and boxs. People from the nearby town were out there with mds very quickly.

Hey Sap,
Sorry, I'm new to this forum and don't know how to do a quote in my post here, but you said:
"Of course, using or even owning a metal detector is either illegal or strictly controlled in Israel, Greece, Turkey and Egypt. So it's a purely hypothetical scenario."
Just curious as to why it would be illegal?
Thanks,

Trying to get access to a field. That use to have a flop house and bootlegger cabin on it. Property goes back in this families heritage of a couple 100 years. Should be a neat place to hit up.

Thanks, just put [*quote] and [/*quote] without the stars at either end of your cut and paste. In those places mentiones and a good number of others - such as Ireland - MD is more or less banned - particually anywhere near important national monuments. The reason - the governments are trying to protect their national heritage from looters and then selling it abroad. It's a rather short sighted political stance - (ok - MD around important sites SHOULD be banned) but there is a lot of stuff just rotting in the fields - more so now with the extensive use of organic and artificial fertilizers. At least the UK scheme of notification of finds brings some material back into the public view - though undoubtedly not all. It's a choice in how much do you want to loose - disintrigation or looters - for want of a better word.

Quote: just put [*quote] and [/*quote] without the stars at either end of your cut and paste. Or you can select your cut and paste, and go to the button that looks like a piece of paper with a red arrow to the right. (the 2nd one from the right.) You have to do this by going to the reply to topic button instead of just typing below the post.
