Well Ben I know nothing about these coins. So I googled it ! The first thing I noticed (after your post)
was a book The Coins of India by C J Brown and the phrase that jumped off the page was "inferior silver". Who knows what they may have alloyed with. Copper is the normal metal but they may have had some other impurities in the copper which give the silver a 'strange' appearance. You are a student still ..... find the Lab and measure the specific gravity. Copper is 8930 and silver is 10490 kg/cu.m As long as it comes in between the two it is good. If its over then you have something strange ..... Uranium or lead. I think the coin looks good. But I know nothing about the little beasties.
