The design might be Roman-style, sarkany, but this was minted right in London, for the "Rebel Emperor" of Britain, Marcus Aurelius Mausaeus Valerius Carausius. I have no ancient coins, but I would have dearly loved to have one of these with me when we got back from our trip to England yesterday. Especially one with the reverse of the goddess Salus feeding the snake, as my wife and I love the wacky 80s horror-comedy Lair of the White Worm, by Ken Russell (and featuring a very young Hugh Grant). A ground find of a Carausius coin features in the plot!
