This has got to be the thing that irritates me most when buying on ebay, when an knowledgeable seller tapes the coins to something while shipping. I just got done soaking Barber dimes in acetone and distilled water, over a the last 24 hours trying to get the tape off them so they don't stick to my fingers.

I've received numerous coins taped as well. I appreciate that they attempt secure packing, but not taping the coins.

I also can appreciate the seller trying to keep the coin secured and safe inside the envelope.

I have had that happen to me one time. Many times the seller is not an "experienced" coin dealer/seller and is just someone who inherited a bunch of coins. The one time it happened to me, I simply e-mailed the seller letting him know that is NOT something he should continue doing. He was very appreciative of the advice and said he would package all future coins w/out taping.

I haven't had a coin "taped" before, but have recently had a slab received in 2 shipping envelopes. Outer was taped completely around with blue duct tape. Inside that was another duct taped envelope. The final envelope was a plastic waterproof type. While I greatly appreciate their attempt, I had an easier time breaking into a safe without the combination....
I'm pleased it was so protected but the amount of time it took to do this must have been staggering. All this was for a 1957 d Washington quarter in MS raw, for $7 including shipping.
Oh, I forgot, on top of each layer of blue duct tape there was clear "packing" tape covering. The more I look at it, I'm going to try to recreate it to see just how much time was involved.

Edit, the coin was not slabbed in a TPG case but a hard plastic 2x2.

Here you go.....

Unknowing-Seller-Taping-Coins-When-Shipping.
This is the second and third packaging layers. This first was tossed as my wife and I couldn't figure how to get into it. It was ripped and cut then tossed. I should have kept the outer layer as well I guess, for prosperity
This third layer (left gray plastic) was also bubble wrapped. I need to hire who did this so when we finally sell on ebay, there would certainly be no "damage" in shipping claims.
This isn't the only time either, we've had 2 others (from different sellers) in the last 2 months, but just one layer of duct and packing tape. I guess there must have been some major sales on blue duct tape somewhere.
Remember, this was a $7 coin......Wow......

Thats one of the most impressive packing jobs I've ever seen. I recently had a coin come that was very well protected. It was inside 4 flat rate envelopes, 1 small flat rate envelope, and 3 bubble wrappers. I couldnt stop laughing opening it up because I felt like I was playing with one of those russian dolls that has the smaller dolls inside of it

I just think that when you stick your finger on a coin, it should not stick to it.

I often tape cheap coins I'm shipping to a piece of paper inside the envelope, but instead of directly taping them to the paper I cut up a plastic lunch baggie and wrap the coins in pieces of it to ensure none of the tape actually touches the coin.

This was actually 11 silver dimes all stuck to pieces of tape and had to peel them off of them.
