French 1792 Silver Coin N Mint Mark With Bird. Louis XVI

Budblazer New Member United Kingdom 3 Posts	Posted 05/24/2013 08:00 am Hi there, I have recently found a coin in an old collection, and will list the info I know about it. I would be most grateful if anyone could give me an idea of rarity, grade and value of this coin, and an appropriate medium in which to sell it. I have tried searching on the net for info, without much luck. It is dated 1792, louis xvi. It is a deeply toned coin, with a scratch to the head of louis (also toned, so not recent). There is an N mintmark to the reverse (believed to be Montpellier, one of the lower mintages), and with some kind of bird mark below the bust. I would really appreciate some help with this, I'm sure it is somebody's area of expertise, and I would be grateful for any info you can provide. Thanks in advance. Rich P.S. I found similar pages on the web, and I'm fairly sure it's a very low mintage compared to the more common Paris mint (A). Is there anywhere I could find more detailed price guides, or anybody I could contact for a valuation (bearing in mind I'm situated in the UK.) Thank you very much for your time. I'd say the coin in the auction listing is a much better grade, although more heavily and deeply scratched. That gives me an excellent comparison, and I will try the local auction houses now- I just wanted an expert's opinion first on whether this would be worthwhile.
