Hi everyone

Found that coin in my Dad's collection(mine now).

It is light (about 6g ),and thin. Is it a Blacksmith token?

I doubt it - the harp's there, but "REX" is a king, and I thought Ireland was a republic? Unfortunately I don't know enough early Irish history to say for sure. Let's wait for a token expert to wander by...

Irish Halfpenny George III. Weight is about right and Hibernia is clearly visible on the reverse.

After looking at some Blacksmith's http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/Col...smith.1.html I am fairly certain yours is is not a Regal issue. DBM is correct it is likely a contemporary counterfeit.

I don't think it's a blacksmith token(crown over harp).
I don't think it's an Irish halfpenny(too light)
It's quite likely a counterfeit,made in England,to circulate in the US.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Is it a counterfeit made some 40 years ago (since we have it), or some counterfeit coins sent here from England more than 200 years ago?
I dont care about the value, its history matters more to me.
