The Ultimate Loonie List As I continue my loon dollar collection (26.5mm diameter) I have decided to put a list together of the different finishes issued as well as popular varieties. All comments are welcome, and if you know of one I have missed please post a reply. * = not issued for circulation, issued in mint sets Below is a separate list of special issued non-circulating loon dollars. The first portion of the list are loon dollars that were issued as part of the annual specimen sets. The second section is loon dollars that were issued in special collector cases or as part of newer collector sets. Finally, the third section is the NHL loon dollars that feature both a home and a road jersey for years 2008 and 2009. And we can forget about the special edition 2010 nickel lucky loonie. In the final list are the loon dollars issued in sterling silver and 99.99% silver. Some of the silver loon dollars were issued individually while others as part of sets. I think I have them all cover. Barrie Edited by barriecarson 03/31/2013 8:18 pm

Thanks for the list. I'd like to finish off my circulation ones. Some of the silver commemoratives are impossible to get price-wise (2007 silver)

From 1988 to 2010, you have MS (business strike), SP and PR finishes, but not proof-like (or Numismatic BU)?

Coin Games - would that be the $30 silver proof w/a mintage of 15,000?

@zookr no the 2007 silver loonie from wedding set, only 849 or so minted. One of my favorites is the 2007 Baby Rattle loonie.

I have been collecting most of the specimen & sterling series. Almost finish, just missing a few of the hockey coins and........2007 wedding! Thanks for the list.

Here is one I didn't see on the list. The 2006 Lucky Loonie with a Proof finish. I believe it was only available in the bookmark.

From 1988 to 2010, yes, a different finish - they were struck in Ottawa, with mirror fields and devices. The others were struck in Winnipeg, and are just nicer versions of the normal production run. That ended in 2011, when the Winnipeg struck coins were placed into the uncirculated coin sets.... the death of the proof-like strike...

The only problem with that 2006 proof lucky loon, is that it is encased in plastic "goop". Unlike the 2005 poppy bookmarks, those are almost impossible to get off without damaging the coin. I may try a liquid nitrogen bath, to see if that works...

SPP> Thanks for the info. I had thought about removing mine from the bookmark to display with my other proof loons - glad I left it as is.

This one seems missing -- the 1952-2002 commemorate with two loons at reverse.

That is the 15th anniversary loon dollar that was issued in the annual specimen set. It is on the list.

For 1997, I think you need to add the flying loon 10th anniversary coin in regular and silver.
