Hi all newbie here. I found this penny today after a 3-hour drive out looking for circulated unsearched penny's, which are nearly impossible to get anymore around here. With everything rounded to the nickel none of the stores have any and local banks here only take penny's but wont sell you any.
This coin is very light and thinner than a regular penny and the rim is contoured.
Id really like to hear what anybody thinks happened here and if it has any worth.
Thanks for lookin

Whatever it is it is PMD. Maybe it was shaved in a lathe or it may have a "frame" of something around it.

Hi thanks for your comment. It is a bit thinner than normal and has some zinc rot contributing to its light weight. Other than that your guess is better than mine.

looks like someone attempted to make it into jewelery, adding the collar..

2 of these have popped up on ebay within recent weeks. With so many (now 3 I've seen) I have to go with the jewelry angle.

I bought a coffee can full of penny's and when I dumped them out it was the first one I noticed, I thought it was a button at first so maybe it was made for something like Penny Loafers or it may have had another collar around it thus the contour allowing it to be attached to anything. The penny has rot but the rim doesn't....thanks for lookin
