I've owned this coin for over 10 years and just happened to learn of this variety..... Moral of the story is get your coins out and look for varieties.

That's why I stash away my pennies for a rainy day. Varieties always get discovered and it's nice to be able to sift through them.

Way, way out of my area here, but I'm going to guess the date is 1957.

Got tired of waiting, looked it up in CherryPickers :)

1957-D, RPM (misplaced mint mark), unusual in that it was the master die which was repunched. I was disappointed to see the prices for ebay listings and recent sales-- thought it would command a much higher premium. Huh. Go figure.

Very cool, I hope to find one.

Why would they have punched a mintmark into the master die?
