Symbology looks Buhddist. 12 Auspicious symbols. Temple token of sorts, I think.

Johnny Mac-
Although there is always the possibility that this is a modern reproduction, this is actually a circulated coin from Bhutan- KM# 27 1 pice (bronze). According to the catalog it is undated, but minted in 1951 and 1955 (with coins struck afterwards all bearing the equivalent of 1951). I believe if you turn the top image clockwise 90 degrees the script in the central square refers to the cyclical date. It looks identical to mine, which at some point I puzzled out to be equivalent to 1951 (but I could be wrong!).

At first glance yours appears to be in VF or better condition, though even in Unc the catalog value is only two or three dollars.

Hope this helps- cheers!

amida17-
Thanks! Admittedly it took a few moments for the lightbulb to go on and for me to realize that I had seen that coin before- in my own collection!

I should add that I made a typo above- nearly identical coins were struck later, but all are dated 1955, not 1951...

I *do* have some a couple of things that look like buddhist tokens that I've never properly attributed- maybe I'll post a couple pictures tonight...

cheers,
tbg
