I have a 1944 penny with 2 dots under the 4's. I can't find any info on it. Any ideas?

Are the dots raised, indented or level with the surface?

Yes, they are raised. They look as if they are from the minting.

Can't tell for sure from the picture, but that coin has seen a lot of wear. Could be some sort of damage, or environmental corrosion. The picture is too blurry to tell anything for sure.

I'll try to get a better photo up. The dots are raised and the same size and placement in relation to the 4's. I do not see any particular damage or wear in the date area.

sometimes when someone is going to add a mint mark they heat up the cooper soldering gun and the first two or three hits are done on a junk cent to get the displacement right "the flow of copper solder" it could be that

Maybe someone was trying to make a 1914D out of a plain 1914.
