I tried to do a search on this topic in this forum before I posted this, but couldn't find one.It is probably there and I just couldn't find it.
After doing some research and some light reading,I decided to give the reverse lens a try.
I ordered a reversing ring for my 18-55mm from Amazon and it came in yesterday. These things are priced from around $6 to $40.
I went with the Nikon brand, all metal, mounts on camera body just like a lens and then the lens is screwed on backwards to the ring.Actually easy on and off.
That is where the easy ends.
Shutter lever has to be held open and you have to manual focus and distance to coin seems to be critical.
So I am still working through issues.
Anyone with experience with this setup?Advise?
Below is an example photo. Not great, but at least view-able.

Looks pretty good. This was a standard technique back in the day and Nikon made a number of other accessories to make it easier. There exists a ring that will go onto the backside (now front...) of your lens that makes it easier to adjust the aperture. Anyone remember the Nikon model #?

Reversing a lens is very much like using an enlarging lens with bellows. All the same issues are there: critical coin to lens distance due to small DOF; critical aperture settings; need to focus stackt to get full field sharp; vibration causing tremendous problems; difficulty of lighting due to small working distance; etc...

Thanks for that input.
After several shootings,I finally figured out that touching the camera during the shot was out of the question.
Started using the self timer.I had also read where some were using a shim to hold the aperture lever in the
open position, which I was reluctant to do,but finally decided it needed to be done.
I'll do a search for the other accessory and see if still available.

If you want greater magnification for your photos use a wide angle lens ....
