I've got a friend going to America soon and I've asked them to get some local magazines for me. Now, my understanding is that there are multiple options, so would someone be able to tell me what the options are and what the differences are?

Yes, there are several coin-related hobby publications available here each month.

Coin World and Numismatic News are published weekly and keep up with current events in the hobby; each also includes a good number of coin ads. Coin World also has a monthly version that includes mostly feature articles vs. current news.

Coins, COINage and Coin Prices are magazines that are published monthly The first two are focused on feature articles covering a wide range of numismatic topics. Their focus is on US numismatics, but articles about world issues are also sometimes included. The third title updates pricing on US coin issues.

Bank Note Reporter and World Coin News are published monthly and cover paper money and world issues, respectively.

The American Numismatic Association publishes Numismatist every month. It covers a broad range of numismatic topics - US and World.

Not all of the above titles are available at every newsstand. As they have shrunk over the past decade, so has their inventory of many hobby publications. I hope your friend can find some for you!

Mr T;
Your friend will probably need to seek out a little shop which specializes in magazines.
Called a "Magazine Shop," these places carry magazines which are not found in convenience stores,
newsstands nor pharmacies.
Alternatively, many old time coin shops carry a few of them as well.
I always favored COINage myself.

The size of the city(s)visited by your friend will help determine how easy or difficult it will be.
Otherwise, commems gave you an exhaustive list of what is available.

Okay, thanks for the tip matthewvincent. The friend is going to some bigger cities so I don't think it should be too difficult.

Mr T, if your friend can find a Barnes and Noble bookstore, or any other larger bookstore, it would be a good place to look for magazines too.

Hope your friend has a good time.

Thank you both. That sounds like a good easy option.
