To answer the "Why?"; future potential value. If you look at the premiums over melt that Morgans garner in 63-64-65, versus what Ikes currently garner... why not? Especially when I am only paying a buck each. I figure as bag attrition continues to turn MS64s into MS62s, I stand to make some decent money off them in 15-20 years, provided that demand continues to rise.

It sounds good in theroy, but there will most likely be More than enough Ikes to fill demand. You need to look at the mintages and you will see they may be like wheat cents on a smaller scale

I lose nothing by setting them aside other than interest, and with the crap interest bank accounts pay these days, why bother? I don't have a savings account, for example; this is my savings account.
I've already sold a few rolls in the past for $40 a roll, or just under $2 per coin. So I guess I'm just hoarding because I can't sell them at the moment.

Well it is not my money you are spending so if you think it is a good idea to horas Ikes go ahead.
Also if you have a 1971 proof and/or a 1972 proof please PM me as I am looking to buy each of these.

This probably borders on a philosophical difference, but if I'm getting them for $1 and they have a face value of $1, I'm not really spending money am I?

i can't say that I'm at all familiar with Ike collecting, but perhaps he was thinking that there might be other currently circulating US coins of a different denomination that have a higher chance of fetching greater premiums over face value? I don't know, just what I was thinking, which is what I too think about when deciding which of our local coins to preserve for future selling

Holy crap. That's a lot of ikes. I thought I had a nice stash of Franklin's but not like that.

SG, yes, there may be, but the ease of picking out nicer ikes, combined with the chances of finding T2's, FEV's, and silver pushes me towards Ikes. I could take the $50 I spend on pulling Ikes every week and direct that elsewhere, such as buying high-quality early clad, which undoubtedly would be a better investment (IMHO) but there is far greater downside there, and it's just not as fun. Pipe, I've got about $40 face in BU Franklins, they're quite nice in uncirculated grades.
