Was at the Museum of London, this afternoon.
Ah, Roman coins....
First photo is of Moulds used for forgery, found by the old wall of London.
Second is of seven Antoninianii of Carausius.
Third is a hoard of 250 AE's from the period of 380 - 400 A.D. found in Bermondsey, London.
The fourth is a selection of Aureii, found in London, from the reigns of Nero to Marcus Aurelius.

Wish I could see that exhibit--someday, along with the British Museum.

some day in the summer I'm going to go up to the british museum and have a proper look around. I've never had the time to properly go through the place. I could cash in on that offer they gave to look at the ushabtis.

Nice displays - they've got some good coins there - my only bug bare is that you can never see the reverses!

Years ago when living in Manchester, I wrote a letter to the BM to see the collection.
I received a special invitation into the strong room of the Coins and Medals Department.
In particular, I was looking at Byzantine gold at the time. I saw tray after tray of exquisite Byzantine solidii.

However, I also examined a few other priceless items, relative to Australian numismatic history.
One of these was the BM example of the Port Philip gold Two Ounce gold pattern. Two only of these exist in gold. THAT piece was actually sitting in the palm of my hand.
This is the example pictured in Rennicks Australian Coin and Banknote Values.

I still remember every second of that experience.

Wow! That must have been an amazing piece to hold--what a great memory!

This is the Museum Of London, not the British Museum.

One small room deals in the pre-historic era, a Wing deals with the Roman era, another deals with the Medieval.
The basement deals in all the rest up until the present day.

Right at the entrance you can see a display of ancient gold coins, including an Olybrius solidus!
