Decided to put this one in my type set. What would you grade it. I believe this one may make PL newspaper print can be read at about 3 inches. Hard to make that out in the pictures....sunlight kind of washed out the contrast in the fields. The horizontal lines are from die polishing. Um, wow.
Slam dunk at 65, with what looks like a better than even shot at 66. The die lines are quite believable; I've seen them before on this year. San Francisco was getting them right during this era, and your coin is an excellent illustration of that.
Tremendous Morgan.

Looks MS-66 but one thing troubles me a bit. It is most visible on the eagle. Parts of the wing, breast, neck, legs, and arrows have this kind of dark, brownish look to them. Other parts of the wing like the top half of the eagle's right wing are whiter and frostier which is what the entire eagle should look like. I hate having to mention this but if submitted to a TPG, there is a possibility that they see it as "thumbed" or "puttied" and label it altered surfaces.

@D0ubl3Eagle, I see what you're talking about and may be the result of the light....in hand the eagle is uniform. This could also be from the picture not being taken straight on, had to do this one at a slight angle due to the positioning of the sun. That all being said....you all have amazing eyes. I doubt I send this to a TPG at this time....I like it sitting in my Type Set. I was torn between this one and an 81-S I have that is slabbed by NGC as a MS 66....this one just has much more eye appeal to me and actually appears to have less chatter than the 81-S.

I had an 1880-S which presented much the same issues with photography; it was in the action of the lighting on frosted surfaces. I can see the chromatic aberration the pristine surfaces are causing (most noticeable on the cheek). I just sorta zoned that out automatically when evaluating these pics. Rest assured, the coin doesn't look like that in-hand. This is a straight-up beauty.

I don't think it can be quite considered a 'cameo', but at least it seems to have been struck from relatively fresh dies.
Two tiny digs on Liberty's cheek near Her lips (obv.), A deeper scratch on the lower part of the Eagle's breast (rev.). I would assume that the edge milling is fully intact, and is sharp to the feel. No tiny edge bumps.
Very good photography, which shows up these minor imperfections. I don't have much of a problem with the 'browner' areas. My guess is that it looks like differential toning. Not much wrong with this one, and it is always nice to see a Morgan in this sort of grade.
MS64+.

Surfaces are great, but these little scratches on the eagle would hold it back from MS66. MS64PL IMO, with a shot at 65. very nice.

This is a good place to offer a little hint regarding what a digital camera does to a coin. Below is an MS66 of this date, one which was adjudicated as "nice" enough for a CAC bean, under harsh lighting and digital photography: What does Shadowtrooper's coin look like now?

Dave, I guess these pics were taken through plastic (slab?), right?

Quote: Dave, I guess these pics were taken through plastic (slab?), right? Yes. They're less than half the size (800px here, ~1800px from Heritage) and the scratches on the slab are far easier to notice in he larger images. The lines at the second and third left stars, the one leading inward from the L, and the ones around URIB are all in the plastic. Everything else, including the entire reverse, is on the coin.

Well in that case, since it's a result of the photography, the coin shouldn't have too much trouble grading MS-66. Might go 67 as there is hardly a mark. Pretty nice coin despite my initial concern.
