I bought into silver as a semli-liquid form of savings. With the recent dip in prices, I am in the red on some silver, but regardless, the time has come to liqidate and the value is still there unlike cash which has a tendency to evaporate. So I'm still happy.
So, here is the delima.
Which do I sell, where and at what primium?
~8 oz of Mexican 72% silver coins ~18 oz of US 90% silver coins ~10 1 oz Mexican Libertads
I can sell to: -US Refinery for the .999 and 90% (pays 90% of spot) -Mexican refinery for the 72% (pays about 80% of spot) -Ebay - fees, fleas, and scammers galore -CCF - no fees (But we are a bunch of tightwads looking for steals and deals)

Not sure what you have in your area, but if your just looking at melt value what about a local coin/pawn shop? The one I go to pays a fair value. Even if he's off the mark by a few percent, I still look at it as hassle free compared to ebay. Usually his few percentage points are still better than fees, shipping, headaches :)

Well, here in Mexico they DO have pawn shops, but not like in the US. That's not really an option. I can ship to the US with out much trouble. So ebay, CCF, and a US refinery are all options. Is US 90% and .999 bullion still demanding a $3-4 premium?

Libs used to sell very well on ebay, Harrison. I bet I paid at least 20-30% over spot (when silver was much cheaper).

How much does ebay, PayPal, and shipping get?

ebay is certainly your best bet especially with collectible silver coins. To avoid scammers, I suggest that you refuse business to anyone with 10 feedbacks or lower just as a precaution. If you're still worried with other customers being potential scammers, I would check their myWorld page and view their "feedbacks left to others". Plenty of negatives would suggest that the buyer is a scammer. Also, when shipping $100+, include signature confirmation and for $250+ include both insurance and signature confirmation as required by Paypal for your seller protection. I hope this helps and good luck!

I believe that ebay gets 10%. Paypal 3% of the ORIGINAL sale, before ebay gets theirs. Shipping varies with destination. ebay is risky; ask anybody who has sold their wares there... "sometimes you are the windhsield...sometimes you are the bug."The Bug Dire Straits, On Every Street, 1992

Id go with ebay, yes you will lose 13 percent but silver sells way above spot for most things on ebay. Every other option youll be lucky to get spot where ebay you can still get above it even after the fees

You might want to try CCF first and break the coins down into smaller lots so that all can afford them. If that doesn't work, then try other avenues.

ebay and Paypal take their percentage off the total sale including shipping. I've had pretty good luck selling on ebay. (Mostly car/motorcycle parts and cell phones.) I've sold about 250 items over 10 years and have only had 2 problems. The latest was a phone I sold about a month ago. The buyer claimed he never received it and filed a charge back with his credit card. Paypal took the money back out of my account until I provided the tracking number and they reviewed the case. I got my money back a couple of days ago. If you sell on ebay make sure you follow ebay's Seller Protection Policy.

Actually, you know what prices you will realize if you sell using these methods:
"I can sell to: -US Refinery for the .999 and 90% (pays 90% of spot) -Mexican refinery for the 72% (pays about 80% of spot) -Ebay - fees, fleas, and scammers galore -CCF - no fees (But we are a bunch of tightwads looking for steals and deals)"
How would I sell? CCF. You are losing 10%, 20%, and minimum of 13% (or more) PLUS shipping fees on the first three.
So...price at 7% below spot, include shipping, and sell on CCF.

Except on ebay youre also getting above spot. Losing 13 percent of 15 or 20 above spot on ebay is still higher than 7 percent below or spot itself. For whatever reason silver sells higher than it should on ebay.

ebayeven with 13% you'll get more than if you sell locally ... you might try forum though I've tried to sell some of my silver on forums, no luck ... increased price tag for 30% and sold it on ebay
