the base coin is a Venice strike of 1840s-53 vintage. Its one of a few base coins that is older than the counter-mark. So is the counter-mark genuine? For me the coin is just way to expensive particularly when I have more important coins to find. I do not know the seller

Interesting. A little research indicates that the countermark looks appropriate; I don't know if the price is justifiable.
