Cool! Looks like S-3 to me, too. Why do you think the pitting in the obverse field looks sort of textile-like?

Quite a gamble indeed! No returns or exchanges from a seller that only has a 42 feedback rating and the last time he sold something was 4 years ago... very bold decision to buy that.
The only opinion I'm qualified to give is that I'm jealous, someday I'll get that dream coin of mine

Looks legit to me. Probably worth a few bucks to have the thing certified and graded genuine, even if you don't want it slabbed the peace of mind would be worth it to me.
Also, you only have 45 days to file with PayPal if it's not good, so I'd say get on that right away...
I'd say you done good!

Have you bought it already? It may just be me, but I don't know what to think about the texture on the obverse.

It was listed for 12 minutes! Hope you spent at least 10 of those studying it!

Assuming it's genuine the price seems fair. As others have posted, I'd submit it for authentication and be careful how you handle it. The thumb on the surface is not good.
Best of luck! It took some daring-do to pull the trigger on that one!

Texture of the obverse could come from it being buried... the obverse side was buried contacting some type of fabric.
The reverse doesn't have the look of a buried coin, though, so I dunno.

Not an expert on early coins but good luck. Anyone who lists something on ebay with a buy it now near the expected value of an item is hiding something. Sort of like selling a car. You want $5000 for the car. You list if for $6000 and haggle down to $5000 so the buyer feels he got a deal. However a buy it now at 20% of the real value should also throw up a red flag. The porous obverse and LARGE scratch on the reverse will most certainly guarantee a details grade but if you just want to confirm it is genuine definitely submit to a TPG. If you paid with a credit card through Paypal you have more than 45 days to get your money back through your CC especially with a TPG certifying it is not genuine.

@oldskoolmadskilz funny it was only up 12 min cause I probly did spend at least a good 5-7 comparing to archived coins at heritage-a great reference-lining up the letter legs with where they pointed towards the chain links, the offset fraction,E ine ONE very close to a chain link, some links are a little tapered, big R in liberty I quickly decided it was an s-3 or an exact copy of a very worn coin?most copies are of a little better grade examples except the 1795 flowing hair dollars the Chinese are making as of late.so the 4 yr ebay absence of the seller was the next question.was it a hijacked acct from a deceased seller?pictures saved from someone elses listing?would I get an empty package with tracking?could it be stolen?all kinda things ran through my head, this is a GREAT HOBBY!sometimes watchin a coin auction end is better than the superbowl.nonetheless my final thought was as much $$$ as eBay/paypal have shook out o my pockets I was buying it and fully intended to use buyer protection if I was cheated.

I don't have a whole lot of insight to add here, but I do think this coin looks real to me.

That X scratched into it makes me especially weary. It might have been a sign from a previous owner.
In any case, it's in very poor shape.

I wouldn't be concerned about the X as it appears to have wear on it. Certainly not recent. That fabric pattern has me stumped. I have a Roosevelt dime that has a similar pattern. I figured that the press operator got his sleeve stuck in the die.

The X is very normal. I'd say the obverse pattern is probably just from corrosion and it has been smoothed out by time and probably helped by previous owners. Any updates stringbookie?
