Poll Question
This is my very first (New) France coin from this time period so I'm not very familiar with the fonts etc. I think ICCS gave this the wrong date and would like a second opinion. What do you think?

This link shows a picture of a 1613 so you can see how both the 1 and the 3 digit look. It also includes a 1616R in the known list.

This link shows a picture of a 1639 and doesn't show a 1636R in the known list.

Yes, you are correct that this is 1616
No, ICCS is correct that this is a 1636
 Wish I could help you!

Here is a link to a nice grade 1616. Sure looks like a 1616 to me.

Why would they think it's a 3? It's a 1 clear as day (on your photos at least).
In other words: yeah, 1616.

Could just be a typo. They're human and occasionally make mistakes. I own hundreds of coins certified by them and this is only the second I've found where the date is incorrect. Thanks everyone!

I suspect it is a typo... I have seen a lot of ICCS typos. t_y has a couple of twoonies in ICCS flips, one certificate dated 1936 and another certificate dated 1906...

BTW, I think it is pretty funny to see the ICCS VF20 against the CCCS F15. Methinks they have a different grading standard!

True that. But I must say I find it a bit of a toss up when I get an ICCS & a CCCS or an ICCS & a PCGS of the same coin at the same grade as to which one actually looks better in hand. Sometimes it's one company and sometimes it's the other. Just the nature of the beast.
