Picked this up while on Vacation last week and was wondering what everyone's thought was on a grade. Thanks in advance!

old hand/water and rag rubbing but certainly market acceptable
I'm not sure if the more experienced graders might deem the buildup as environmental interference

I'm going to say VF35 with a stretch to EF40 depending on technical aspects

I think its nice, original and circulated. It's been spent a few times prior to someone setting it aside as a collectible.

Something about the lip/mouth does not look right, it may be the accumulation of dirt over the years. But, I would give it a XF40 (details, if that is a scratch in front of the nose)

XF40 details. I wouldn't even try to remove that black thing that covers it. The underlying surface could be a lot worse.
It looks like someone cleaned the obverse once, but didn't like the result, so he stopped there.

I agree, I have no plans on trying to remove anything from the coin. I'm not one to attempt any type of cleaning. I call it history laying on the coin and just can't bring myself to doing that... :) I actually like the patina on this coin as the details of the coin really stand out against the black crud on it.
