I know that bullion sales on ebay are exempt from ebay bucks promotions. I bought some bubble mailers the other day and see they are as well.

So are those things also subject to reduced seller fees by ebay as well?

I am presuming they are exempt because the profit margin is less and ebay gives them a break on fees as well - thus they can't afford to also give 2% back on top of it.

I have no idea why stores not able to make their own web site and use ebay as the advertising tool?
I know some sellers who do it and I buy directly from their online stores saving pretty good and getting APMEX like rates on some items.

I mostly sell on ebay, so yeah, fees are high, but the fees are payed by the buyers in my case as I price my items high in order to cover all the fees. Those who don't will to pay the fees contact me via pm and we close the deal off ebay ... that's how the market works - people look for cheaper ways to make business.

I didn't get that from reading it. I see that the guy was paying 3.32% ( 109 on a 3190 sale ) and with their change to 4%-9% he says he is now going to pay 110% more - which would mean about 7% from what he states.

I am a low volume seller, so I pay 10% on sales IIRC. It sounds like bullion sellers were paying considerably less ( under 4% ) but now aren't that far below ( at 7% ) as of May 1. If I am reading it correctly.

So I can see why ebay wasn't giving 2% back on transactions they were making under 4% on. Now that they doubled it though?

bekiz,
I'm sure ebay hates it but I do that all the time as well ( if a seller has the same items on his website then I can offer him considerably less there as it saves him the fees ). Offer to pay by check ( saving them another 3% in CC/paypal fees ) and there is a lot more room for haggling - in my experiences. I've noticed a few seller's "hinting" about this in their ads of late - tho obviously ebay doesn't want to be "cut out".

But ebay reaches many thousands more potential customers than the number that visit specific seller's websites directly "on their own". So it is a quantum leap different in marketing/audience.

What I "don't get" is when I see seller's listing the same coin "for more" on their website than on ebay. Or even at the same price. As a buyer, I'd take the "buyer protection" addition plus 2% ebay bucks return if that is the case. But they are costing themselves the extra fees that way.

I'll also add that I put seller's on my "no fly" list if they list on ebay ridiculously more ( I've seen as high as 75% even ) than on their website or on Collector's Corner or elsewhere. IMO, that is an obvious gouge and attempt to find an ebay "sucker". I fully understand, as a buyer and seller, that ebay listings would need to be higher due to the added fees. But tacking on a LOT MORE is just unabashedly gouging and trying to rip off, IMO! Like those seller's listing for 200% of retail/list, it is part delusional and part sleazy IMO. Wastes my time having to wade through them on searches. A small premium for "eye pop" is one thing, but 100%, that is ridiculous, IMO! And some of them don't look that good anyway. I'm not talking about "toned" either, that is a different story.

Good Luck all!

That could be true, I dont have a store either and never sold bullion so I have no personal experience with it. With the old system and the stepping stone fees its a little hard to figure it out now that they seem to have moved to a flat fee. I think the old system was a little more favorable to the top selling discounts if I remember right

It does seem though hes a seller who gets their best possible rates, if hes paying 7% now Id imagine most people are paying a good chunk more.

I would love to find a comparison of the fees from an average joe seller before and after the switch
