G'day

I was wondering if anyone has noticed that there is a difference between the 2007 $1 'S' (and 'C') mintmarks and the 'B' mintmark? I picked mine up last Friday and when I looked over them when I got home, I noticed that the right pilon (on the little version of the Sydney Harbour Bridge at the top of the reverse) has a little square dent in it. I thought it might be one off flaw, but noticed that all the 'B' mintmarks had it, including the Berlin World Coin Fair version.

I am unable to scan the coin to such a fine level, but I would be interested in getting some feedback from others who may have noticed the same problem and from anyone who might be able to say why it has occurred.

Thanks.

CM.

Excellent spotting the difference. Congratulations, Your the first and the discover and report this as far as I can tell.

Yes all my three 'B' coins have the "dimple" and my 3 'S' coins do not. This could be a design change as it looks like a door on the side of the right pilon.

You have Great eyes!

I'm excited at your discovery and have posted the news on the Australian Forum.

Super Cool !!!

The Portable Press 'B' mintmarks DO NOT HAVE the door on the pilon.

The Royal Australian Mint people at the Brisbane Coin Show didn't know about the difference either. Forum members had to point out the difference to them and a few coin dealers. But all have agreed that the 'B' coins that have the mark, sort of look like a door on the pilon.

There are a few 'B' MM SHB coins from the Portable Press that do have a small 'window' on the right pylon. I've got some & I think Brissyboy has also, so it's most likely that others will also have them. The size of the 'window' is not consistent.

On the 'B' MM from the large press, it appears to be square, but on my PP ones it is more rounded.
