While walking in Philadelphia, I saw a tiny gold/silver pawn shop with a small box of silver halves in its front window. I picked up this commemorative Booker half for $11 (yeah, I know it has a few rim dings, but that's still a good price - he started off at $20). One more spot filled in the 7070.
The sales guy had no idea what the coins were worth. There was a worn and beat up 1861-O half in the mix too. After he sold me the Booker, I think he figured he could make some real bucks off of me and priced the 1861 at $250. Needless to say I walked away from that one.

You did fine as a matter of fact you did more than fine. I would have bought that and I have the complete set of 1948s.

If you stroll back in there someday check to see if the 1861 O is a Confederate (at $250 I'm sure it will be there a while)

Just a worn eagle on the reverse.. I checked. He had a variety of WLs, Franklins, even a few Kennedy 40% silvers, all worn to a varying degree and all sitting in a shoe box cover. I could se the seated liberty half from the street in the middle of all of that, which caught my interest. Based on the way the coins were all lumped together, it was apparent that he was just dealing in bullion. I should have made an offer on the seated liberty first, before he began to think he could make a killing with me.

Was there a die crack from Liberty's nose to the rim on the '61 O?
