I don't think it is any big secret that many sellers list the same coins on ebay and on their own sites. Many will reduce the listed price on their site to reflect not having to pay the ebay fees.

I have noticed that several sellers have become more brazen and obvious about this "technique" of late.

One lists in his ebay ads ( in the detailed description portion ) that the same coins can be found on his website at greatly reduced prices.

Another, after I bought a "best offer" coin through ebay from him, sent a coupon with the purchase that flat states that all of the coins he lists on ebay are also available from his site for 10% less. He accepted a 25% less best offer on the one I bought so that was moot. The coupon is that for my next purchase directly from his site, he'll take 5% more off to boot. So far I can't find anything else I am interested in though.

I would think ebay would be pretty diligent about rooting these things out.

Obviously, if you go to their site on your own they have nothing to say - but that sellers are telling folks to check out their 10% better deals ATB is pretty brazen, IMO!

Ebay's enforcement arm is pretty weak. They rely to a great extent on information from ebay users, and what user is going to complain about something like this?

I'm trying to understand if the OP is complaining about this or just stating it as an FYI?

I would say "FYI" to aide others who are tired of the fees associated with these two behemoths when selling their wares.

Although the buyer does loose quite a bit when they partake in "behind the counter" operations; paypal protection, ebay bucks,...there must be another. But then again the "savings" may be a wash.

Guilty. I have done it myself as a buyer.

I have noticed that most sellers use their coin store name as their ebay account you can look up and include their outside information in packages. Usually you can get better deals, though make sure to double check that the difference in price is greater than the ebay bucks you would get and factor in shipping for total costs. Some sellers have much friendly ebay shipping prices than their own sites

As an FYI, of course.

As for the "protection", I'm not sure how much that is worth. It doesn't keep seller's from using deceptive pics or selling "messed up" coins. There's a bit of risk in any of these "buy from pics" "send by mail" transactions really - and any online buying for that matter. I am not so sure it is "increased" significantly when buying from a seller's website than from ebay or Amazon or wherever. Maybe I am lucky, but I have had more problems and bad pic issues from ebay sellers than from "direct website" transactions, by far. So I don't feel any "protected/better" by buying from folks paying the ebay fees than from "direct" transactions that bypassed that aspect.

My opinion is that if ebay kept their rates reasonable, sellers wouldn't need to find a way to evade their fees.

I do try to find the seller "offline" in many cases but would only purchase from them directly if they have a good reputation and are members of ANA and PNG. Many of these dealers can be found in the dealers section of Collectors Corner http://www.collectorscorner.com/dealers

Many of these dealers use ebay as more of a marketing resource to find customers in the hopes of making them a regular direct customer in the future.

LOL, you ebay complainers absolutely kill me. How on earth can you think ebay fees are too high? The most ebay will charge you to sell something is 10%. PayPal will charge you 2.9% + .30, so for an item you sell for $100, your total fees are $13.20. Have you ever sold something at a "live" auction? Most auction houses have a sellers fee of 20-25% and a buyers fee of 10-20%, so a live auction house could end up with as much as 45% of the final value, where ebay ends up with 13%. What about traffic? Do you realize how many potential buyers your item can have on ebay? More than any other venue ANYWHERE.

I didn't think anyone was complaining about ebay fees but I totally agree the exposure on ebay is well worth the fees charged through ebay and paypal.

This is what I do, but my pricing is different than what is discussed here. I am a firm believer in auctions. To me they represent pure market value. I tend to start most of my ebay listings at .99, and let the market dictate the price. On my website, I try to price competitively with other online and brick and mortar dealers. My prices are negotiable, but I do not under cut my ebay prices on my website. You have to learn to use ebay and the exposure that comes with ebay to your advantage. It is the most cost effective advertising tool I have ever come across on the internet.

On Australia ebay I have in May taken the anchor store offer and sales have increased over 400%. Australia ebay was very primitive and we could only afford BIN listings at 20c a go as auction listings were a $1 a go.

Now I can have as many auction lots as I like at no extra cost but the store costs $500 per month. Yes I know on .com an Anchor store cost $300 per month.

We were destroyed by .com ebay, they called us aliens and inter boarder traders and sent us back to Australia about 12 months ago . We are now selling as much as we did back then on .com.

We are very happy as you can imagine.

We list 600 to 700 lots one week and 700 to 800 lots the next with selling rate of just over 30%.

I am very blessed as I have 2 other family helpers.
