This cent has many things wrong with it and a couple of them I've not seen before. There is a groove on the obverse that runs under the "R" in TRUST (the "R" is unaffected) and stops under the first "T" in TRUST. There is a die crack that runs from the first "T" in TRUST to the "E" in WE. Then the background beneath the date is very rough, but it doesn't look like typical polishing marks. Lastly there is a die crack on the top of the reverse that runs over the 2nd "S" in STATES, over the "O" in OF, and to the "S" in PLURIBUS. I guess I'll call it an S.O.S. cent.

Anyway, would someone be able to tell me how the groove got unter the "R" and what all the rough spotting is under the date? Are any of these errors related to each other?

The mark on TRUST looks like the die was dented in that area. Raising the area next to the rim. There may have been an event where two dies made contact or with another steel object to make the dent leaving a raised area on the NW of U-T? That is what I think I'm seeing. It may look like a trench, but the area is raised. Like this example, but not just as strong in one area.

Under the date? I can't see what you are referring to there?

You can't see the date anomaly because I forgot to include the closeup pic of the area, here you go...
