I am wanting to get a 2012 Proof set and I am wondering if this set will ever decrease in value? If so when?

It may some in time as the shock of what happened wears off, but will probably always have some premium being a lower mintage.

As for when who knows, could be months could be years

Will depend if the 2013 proof comes in as low, or lower mintage, then the 2012 set might come down in price. Both the 2008 and 2010 sets are still above issue price. None of my usual suppliers are breaking up the 2012s for sale as individual coins. So the set is more valuable intact than as singles. Only time can tell what will happen with the sets.

1999 silver proof sets were sky high, then came way down, even after silver went way up...
So it's possible, if not likely, but it will take years.

I too am in the same situation. I decided to investigate the issue based on what the 1999 silver set did. I found a post from 2006 on this site mentioning that they were going for around $380 on ebay. Now they go for less than half that. So the price did come down, but it was well elevated even seven years after issue. With 1999 it's not quite clear why the price jumped because despite purchase restrictions, there were about as many minted as other years. 2012 did have lower mintage so it may be a bit different. My guess is that the price will stay high only because those that wisely bought extras won't give them up. My plan is to wait a decade unless a bargain comes along.
