I can't tell if it's been Struck Through Grease or just very weakly struck in some areas. I haven't been able to find a good Struck Through Grease example on a Three Cent Nickel to compare it too... do these even exist on Three Cents? Any ideas?

Apparently, a lot of grease! Either that or one side of the planchet was extremely thin. Other than the missing details, is everything else normal? Weight correct?

If the planchet were that thin, I don't think the rim would have filled as completely as it did. My guess is this one was the first coin struck after a greasing operation; the dies had been brought together (maybe a slow operation of the press to ensure everything was working properly) and shared grease between them as a result. Then this planchet came along and became a double Greaser. Extremely cool coin.

I Just weighed it and it's fine. Yes, everything else appears normal.

Great description as to how this could have happened. Definitely sounds plausible to me!

If anyone has a similar Struck Through Grease Three Cent, I'd love to see a picture of it as a comparison.

Definitely a heavy die clash visible on the obverse...

The date looks a little funny to me. Anyone else see anything different about it?

Didn't notice the clash. You're referring to the marks coming out of the neck and top of the hair, correct?

It looks as though the "1" and the "5" were partly Struck Through Grease too.

THIS is a very interesting coin!

I also believe there was grease interfering with the minting process.
