Please excuse my ignorance...I found a Rhode Island State Quarter in my change the other day, and it didn't have the copper band around the edge of it. I thought at first it was a silver quarter which is why it caught my attention. It has a mirror like surface, it also has a 'P' mint mark...I thought it looked like a proof coin, but I thought proof sets were all S marked...

Could anyone help me? Is the coin silver?

Thanks in advance all :)

My guess would be that it's silver plated.

Ya, early on in the series QVC and a bunch of others offered silver, gold, platinum and even palladium plated versions of the Statehood Quarters. None were official government mint issues, and the amount of precious metal in the plating is negligible. Still a neat find though.

I would consider it a keeper. Has no value over 25 cent, but it's still pretty cool.

You can't beat an oddity found for face value.

Keep it.
