In your opinion, how much is this coin worth?

Looks like you could get one in that condition for about $30 on ebay

Clean it up real good and you could get more. Just kidding! Interesting error and probably one that can be found in junk coin boxes.

After learning of this error last night, I went on a prowl through the bay listings. I found this "gem" for only $5 including shipping. I think it's a pretty cool error, I kept wondering how did a 1 get near the neck of the Indian, the world may never know.

I'd say about $15-20.
You have a corroded/damaged coin.

Nice cherrypickin! I've also cherrypicked one off of ebay too - mine has similar wear, but no corrosion or verdigris. The 1897 S-1 (Snow1 - 1 in neck attribution) is a Rarity 5 - a top variety with a premium of 10X. I'd guess $10-15 in that condition.

I've found one on ebay and several in bargain bins at shows--they're still out there. Nice find for $5.
Regarding the reason for the MPD, it's thought digits were punched in denticles and other places to test die hardness.
