After the flea market, I still had coin fever so stopped by a coin shop on the way home. I found this in their penny bin.
It appears to be a proof, I think.
I have zero experience with proofs so I started googling. I hope I don't sound like a bonehead, but I'm a little confused by what I found. The queen on mine is matte like on a proof, but the maple leaf is not. On all the proofs (for other years) that I could find online they are both matte. Also, NGC doesn't show a value for 1974 proofs. Coinsandcanada mentions proofs for that year but there are no pictures and I can't find anyone selling or having sold a 1974 proof, they all say 'prooflike' and both the queen and the leaf are shiny.
So, what exactly do I have here? Is this a proof? Why is the maple leaf shiny and not matte like the queen?
Thanks for any insight you can give.
