Hi,

I cannot decide whether or not this Mercury dime's mintmark exhibits the PUP for a FS-10-19435-511 or not.

Also, when deciding upon the above issue please also state the grade.

Finally, since it appears that the black gunk is most likely tar etc. I will attempt to hit it with some type of organic solvent like lighter fluid for nicer curb appeal.

Thanks

Top of the 'S' appears to have serif and is thinner at top and bottom to be a real trumpet tail.

True TT 'S' has a even thickness around the curve on top. And looks bigger.

PCGS link above shows a good comparison.

This looks like MMS-005, the straight serif. It's hard to tell from your photos but the best way to tell is by looking at the top of the upper serif. If the top of the upper serif has a spike going up it is the straight serif, MMS-005. If the top of the upper serif has no spike and slopes down with the upper curve it is the Trumpet tail MMS-004. (also the bottom part of the lower serif should have a downward pointing spike as well for the straight serif MMS-005 mintmark, but it is hard to see that on your pictures as well)
