With the recent USPS increase I am trying to think of new, more creative ways to ship my coins - this is how I have shipped them until now:
1. Place coin into small coin envelope 2. Staple coin envelope onto package slip 3. Place package slip between two cardboards
As of today I still mail like that but it's not very cost effective with the new postal rates, sight.

I am shipping just like before but I charge more for the auction. try to charge exactly what shipping is and keep the good packaging job and you will make your customers happy.

I was using bubble mailers and pvc free slips but that went up from 77 cents to $1.31 so I reverted to standard envelope and cardboard siding and I am down to 41 cent standard shipping, letter weighing less than an ounze of course. If it weighs more then I charge actual shipping rate + cost of materials used to ship them in.

They're going to be much more strict on machinables than they used to, so don't be surprised it that doesn't work for long. Also, you can't use DC on a flat, so if you take Paypal you could leave yourself open for trouble. IMHO, you're better off sucking it up and using a #000 bubble mailer.

Sleaklight - you may will get your mail returned or your customer has to pay additional postage fee because you will have to pay now $0.58 in fact (because you can't bend the letter easily) for an one ounce letter.
Taken from the USPS web site:
Quote
Letters that meet one or more of the nonmachinable characteristics below are subject to the $0.17 nonmachinable surcharge. For items over 3.5 ounces, see Large Envelope or Package.
• It is a square letter
• It is too rigid - does not bend easily
• It has clasps, string, buttons, or similar closure devices
• It has an address parallel to the shorter dimension of the letter
• It contains items such as pens that cause the surface to be uneven
• The length divided by height is less than 1.3 or more than 2.5 (calculate this below)

where do you get your bubble mailers? The cheapest I can get them from is Walmart at 57 cents each. I've looked online and they appear to be the same price.

the cheapest way is to buy them in bulk from numerous places online. Most of the smallest ones you can get for 20 cents each. But you have to buy 250-500 of em at once

Yeah, they run specials if you check every week. The last batch we got was 1,000 for $129.95 delivered, 13 cents a piece. I'm sure you don't need that many though.
