Hi! I noticed a weird stamp on 50 mark 1920 banknote. Wondering if someone could tell me something about it and its value? *** Edited by Staff to add images to post. ***

That is really cool. Its some sort of advertisement but I'm not sure of what, lets hope some spanish speaking members take a look at your post and help out. I did a little bit of research and found a letter send by the company for which that advertisement is http://www.todocoleccion.net/luis-c...nda~x9388319 I don't think it would add much value, if any though.

RECLAM VERLAG was a German publisher. Perhaps it had a branch in Barcelona. Now, the question is, "Why did a German Note have a Spanish advertisement?" Calling an historian! When did Germany begin to influence Spain? A 50 Mark note predates hyper inflation. This publisher was severely restricted during the Nazi Era. This is the kind of question that drives me crazy until I find a lead.
"ARTICULOS DE RECLAMO Y PROPAGANDA" "PRODUCTS OF CLAIM AND PROPAGANDA"
Good Luck, Lyy99.

Reclamo is like something to catch the attention of people, and propaganda means adverts.
So it's advertising a company that basically advertises. Some of it is in Catalan, being from Barcelona, some appears in Spanish. It might be a shop that basically sells items of interest historically for advertising, I'm not so sure.

The note may predate the hyperinflation period, but hyperinflation quickly rendered these notes worth less than the paper they were printed on. I suspect the company bought up thousands of them when they became cheap, shipped them to Spain, counterstamped them and used them as cheap advertising flyers.

So, if I understood, the stamp is from 1923(?), and it is because of propaganda? And the stamp does not add any extra value to the note?

Sap, That explanation makes perfect sense to me. Lyy99, Perhaps no monetary value, but as an example as to the lengths that the CCF members will go to solve a question!

Its' distant cousins are Hungarian and Korean. "Agglutinate" applies to all three. Keep on adding stuff to the basic word. ARGH!
I took a look at the Paris Expo medal. Were you satisfied with the answer? Russian does not scare me.
In the end, we are an English speaking group, but, I like to say a few words in a new member's language. Just to show respect.

I googled a little bit for some information about that medal and found out everything I needed. And the fact that the only language on this forum is English makes it a little bit difficult for me, because I am only 14 years old, and Finnish people are not too good speaking English Ja kiitos!

For most people in this world, English is merely a bridge language. But without such a "common denominator", how could we ask and get answers here? Your English looks fine to me; just keep on posting here. That stamp on the note has no connection to the Reclam publishing house, I think. It's just that "reclam" is the Catalan word for advertising ... Christian (DE)

Thanks for sharing your German banknote. I would have been stumped as well, and that is after spending a large number of years working for my Uncle Sam.
