Panzaldi, I'm not sure % of retails is the correct formula.
For example, common silver coins, are extremely unlikely to be purchased for 50% retail as even their retail is epsilon (say, 20% tops) over melt.

On rare coins, for example 50% retails might still be significantly higher than wholesale, if a coin is hard to sell.

This means your formula would bias you towards coins with high bid-ask spread, which are usually the less popular coins, with lower demand.

I appreciate the advice. I have actually gotten a few nice deals on ebay when I'm patient. I'm not the kind of collector that buys just because its in front of me (most of the time). I go to a couple of different shops almost daily. The "fresh" coins that are good quality are gone fast, so that's how I get most of my good stuff. Sometimes it is slow going though. When I have to resort to ebay, I will have to work out a system like yours.
