I bought a set of silver proof sets and some of them are starting to discolor. it's basically an orangish bloom on the details. Does this significantly reduce the value of the set? I'm considering returning them. I didn't pay a lot for them, but they also weren't super cheap.

The seller is taking them back. I think I'm done with buying proof sets on line. I had really good luck with a few buys. No problems and really deep cameo. I only need 2000, 2005 and 2006 to complete the state years. I think for these, I should spend the extra $10 and pick out the ones I want in a coin shop.

Or maybe a coin show? You might have a wider selection there.

A good rule of thumb to follow with PROOF sets is that 1955 and after should NOT be toned. When they are I buy that as bust up set to sell and pay for the coins that aren't toned. Now before 1955 (including those 1955 sets that came in the box and not the flat back) that's a different story because of the cellophane bags the mint used then. Then you have to look at the toning and ask this: Is it attractive generally and does it have eye appeal. If you don't have two yes to that then pass on it.
