I don't know much about notes issued by banks with the bank name on them. How can I find out -- or maybe one of you already knows -- if there were notes from the south side of Chicago, possibly Tallman Savings and Loan or Tallman Home?

My family used to live there and it is possible that is the bank they used. I thought it might be fun to get a Tallman note - if it exists.

And, if it does, what should I be prepared for price-wise? I am hoping to go the the World's Fair of Money and I figure it will be my best shot at finding such an item but I kind of want to be prepared

They didn't issue national bank notes if the word national isn't in the title. Nationals were issued from 1863-1935. And the name sounds much too modern to have been used on a state bank note printed before the Civil War. So sadly, odds are you won't be able to find a bank note. However, an old check or letterhead is definitely possible.

A little off the subject, but I remember my grandma taking me there in the sixties. Ernie Banks was there signing autographs.

Thanks for the reply. I've been searching all over the interweb and learned to spell Talman correctly. It was started in 1907 -- maybe.

I got that info. from someone who posted that some of that info. was in a book of Czechoslovakian Organization from 1933.

Somewhere else I read that it was the third largest S&L in the country.

But I think I will take your suggestion and look for some other kind of bank item. Even an old calendar would be fun to have (and show my mom).

As for Ernie Banks -- what was Mr. Cub doing on the south side? LOL

When I was a kid rooted for both teams because I am a child of a mixed marriage. Mom was a Sox fan and Dad was a Cubs fan. But eventually he won her over.
