With the price of the silver tumbling since the start of the year, we have to go back in august 2011 to see similar prices... Anyway have the price of a 1oz commemorative coins at the mint at this time? I remember the mint saying they have to adjust their price in the meantime because silver and gold getting up... With the trend we see at this time, I think they should reconsider their prices... Seems that the gold and silver will continue to go down, lots of company will stop the production of silver... The production cost VS spot price is getting very hard to continue extracting the ressource and the demand for gold and silver as a refuge since the last 10 years is getting out of gas for investors too... It's cyclical and I think we reach the a critical point with the drop of the last month... Will be interesting to see the next few months...

There are many independent cost factors that contribute to a mint's final retail price for each product.
The PM purchase price that the mint pays is one of them.

All mints purchase their PM's on forward contract.
That means that there is a variable lag time between the date of purchase metals used for manufacture, and date sold as final product.

The best strategy that CCF members can employ is to have a good comparative look at the secondary market and make buy or sell decisions accordingly.
Mints are aware of this strategy, and it helps influence their retail price decisions.

its a collector business, not bullion...so it has litle effect on the coin prices....the only effect that it could have is if the price of silver would go to 200$ an oz...

Man...that IS a beautiful coin. But jeez, paying 27,000 over spot is just heart breaking lol. Maybe if I was SUPER rich, then this would make some sense.

Until then, I guess even under 5k mintage I'm out :P ... gotta keep up my MC status somehow though...hmmm
