I finally got my Septimius Severus coin (my 1st ancient coin) in the mail today. Thanks again for all the advice and help. I still don't know what kind of theme I'm going to try to go after, but getting it's motivating me to get more and read more about these coins. Any suggestions of common themes?

Nice coin . I don't go by a theme, I just buy whatever catches my eye. I do think I will go after the 12 sometime though. So that would be my suggestion.

I am the same as the others and generally buy what takes my fancy however my long term goal is to cover the entire roman period. As you have bought a Severus why not initially try and complete the severan dynasty and buy a coin for each ruler?

Great first coin! I started out just buying ancients from different regions but have now narrowed the quest down to getting one coin from each of the Roman Emperors and rulers. I try for the nicest coin with clear text and portrait that I can afford.

Again, thanks for the advice! I'm taking you guy's advice and just going to collect the ones that catch my eye too. I'm already trying to decide between getting either a Marcus Aurelius, or a Severus Alexander denarius I found for my next coin.
