In a moment of madness I bought this coin as a 1701 Inverted V's for A's William iii 1/2 penny but the main error is GVLIELMS. I am struggling as to whether it is a 1700 or 1701 coin but my questions are

Has anyone seen a double error 1700 1/2 penny GVLIELMS and inverted V's for A's or

a 1701 GVLIELMS and inverted V's for A's error ?

Thanks for all input.

Thanks Phil, I've been searching too and all the 1700 GVLIELMS seem to be unbarred / inverted. I bought it because it was meant to be 1701 and the GVLIELMS error is not recorded in Spink.

The seller of this coin (a reputable coin dealer as far as I can see) has guaranteed that this is a 1701 1/2 penny - so does this mean that I have another unlisted Spink 1/2 penny variety ?

Just so you know - I was being sarcastic because Spink know everything in the UK

I couldn't let this thread, involving a mis-spelled William III 1/2d, go without showing one of mine, a 1696 BRITANNAI -

I'm wondering if your W & M is this one from the Nicholson collection :

William and Mary. BMC 602 (variant). A's of MARIA seem unbarred as BMC 604, but hints of bars show on an enlargement of the photograph. Both E's on the obverse have large serifs and resemble B's but this is simply due to awkwardly large serifs. Weight 10.38g. Good Fine, strong and clear. All 1694 halfpennies have become rare in grades above Fair. Purchased from D. G. Barney, 17-12-1979.

There is a remarkable resemblance in the 1694's. The position of all elements of the legends seem to match. Also the Nicholson lot description does mention "B"s for "E"s.
However, some of the letter shapes just don't quite seem to match. (Particularly, the 1st E/B in the King's name).

Very interesting . . . .

Here's another, a 1700 BRTTANNIA, though the coin is better than my picture. (Sorry about that).
