Is there any added value in keeping coins in original mint wrappers? I can see on one hand, it is an official mint package. On the other hand, you don't know the condition of any of the coins.

I'm thinking of picking up some 2008 Sac dollars just to hang on to and am deciding on a bunch of loose ones vs a roll. Rolls are a bit over $50 right now.

I have inherited some bank rolls of Sac dollars, I don't know why they were being collected. I thought mint rols like the P D ones were better. But bank rolls?

Are the mint rolls better than buying the bags?

There could be for some things but it doesn't seem to be assured. The highest potential value seems to be finding something exceptional inside.

Elmo the rolls theoretically should be better quality than the bags since the coins aren't banging around against each other inside. The bag does have the advantage of being able to pick through a lot more coins though.

Am I to believe that the US Mint has begun wrapping its' own coins, or is it just a euphemism for "the subcontractor we shipped sixteen tons of Nickels to, in huge bags"?

I don't know if the mint rolls their own or subcontracts. There seems to be some unreasonable value in the surprise element that it may contain a superior coin. I recall seeing a recent proof set bring way to much money on ebay because it was still sealed in the mint shipping box. Was wondering if the same thing applied to unopened rolls.

I would rather look through them. I can't stand not knowing what I have got.
