What's the safest way to remove a coin from a slab?

If it's a basement slab you are trying to break I find it not hard to do with a screwdriver. Of course, I am overly careful not to stab the coin or my hand, but it's not too difficult to just pry open a little at a time. As for the top three, while not reading the below thread link, I have heard a small workbench vise and a dremel tool works great.

Very common question and numerous answers. If you check the links that were given you'ld find lots of suggestions. However, few bother to ask what you have available in the way of tools. If you do not have a place with a bench grinder, vise, dremel tool, saber saw, band saw, etc. you may have a situation. If you are a younster, you should make sure there is an adult present during such a thing. A piece of plastic flying into your face may not be a healthy situation. Just placing a slab in a vise and closing it will eventually split open any slab but to much force and plastic will be flying. With out power tools just about any saw will work but you should have a vice to hold it still. Just cut off the edges and it will fall apart.
Or as so many have said, throw it against a wall. However, even that will produce flying debris. So a Butane torch is still best.

I just take a thin knife and slowly wedge it in the side. A small air pocket is visible and then I ease the knife around the edges slowly giving a small twist to keep raising the slab as I go. Then I take a microfiber cloth and pop the coins out.
