Hi,

Please rate this proof coin insofar as it having a RPM on the ‘S' mint mark
.
In person it appears to be a FS-05-1968S-501 in Cherrypickers.

Also assign it a grade for the record.

Thanks,
mdpmedia

I believe the '68S proof RPMs were all S/S east.
I could be wrong.

Hello,

With these three new camera views of the mint mark I am hoping that now my original requests can be answered.

Photographing proof coins has always been a headache since the glare may hide some important characteristics.

Also, when a diffuser is utilized to diminish glare some details are inevitably lost until one switches back to axial lighting etc.

thanks,
mdpmedia

Monticello is awful weak for a proof (impaired/circulated?)...I have a (business strike) Jefferson with that has a similar "questionable" mintmark, that was identified as a "die chip" in a previous thread;

Here is a blurp and link to the NGC website (quite a bit different);

1968 S/S 5C FS-501
Variety Diagnostics
The mintmark was repunched west of the first impression.

VarietyPlus Cross Reference
NGC Label FS-501
VarietyPlus VP-001
CONECA RPM-002
Fivaz-Stanton (OLD) FS-038

oih82w8,

Thanks for the input but IMHO your mint mark does not exhibit any of the eastern-located RPM characteristics that the three photos I most recently uploaded do exhibit.

Insofar as the reverse lettering I have attached another photo of the MONTICELLO taken using axial/ambient lighting without the use of the diffuser which was present in my initial post of this thread.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Anyone else is also welcomed to address my questions.

Thanks,
mdpmedia

Sorry, I thought that they looked "similar".

Back to our regularly scheduled thread.
