Just noticed that the Girl Scouts of the USA Young Collectors Set will go on sale on 19 July at a selling price of $54.95. It's "advance notice" product page should be viewable on the Mint's web site within the next few days.

At a price point cheaper than the standard packaging version of either the proof or uncirculated coin, it's anyone's guess which version of the coin it will feature. My current thinking is that the set will include a proof silver dollar.

Not always. The Young Collector set for the 1996 Smithsonian 150th anniversary featured a proof silver dollar.

I also had in mind both of last year's special edition sets - the Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollar Set and the Infantry Soldier Defenders of Freedom Set - they each featured a proof silver dollar.

All that said, an uncirculated silver dollar for the Girls Scouts set is certainly possible.

I hope they do the proof.. I actually think these sets are kind of unique and fun. I disliked the GS coin enough to only buy the Uncirculated... so if they do this in the proof I might be convinced to buy it.

The set can now be viewed on the Mint's web site here: http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ory_rn=10111

The set appears to be similar to previous Young Collector sets. The Mint did go with an UNC dollar vs. the Proof.

Interesting how the YC Set is $1 cheaper than the standalone UNC dollar. Considering it's aimed at kids, I'm glad to see the Mint is making it as accessible as possible.

The set will be available to purchase beginning next Friday.

Too bad they went with the uncirculated coin. I won't jump to buy this one - any bets it will still be cheaper when it hits the secondary market?

Kinda like it.

The packaging reflects what I think of with the Girl Scouts. Sure, there are the older teenagers but I still think the packaging is very appropriate for the coin.

I will order 1 maybe 2 and hopefully they will fit into a comic plastic bag with board to protect the original packaging.

Sales were rather slow over the first few days for the Girl Scouts "Young Collectors" set - just 1,474 sold. I guess there wasn't much pent up demand within the scouting community (or the general collecting community).

I'll be picking one up - anyone else?

The mint is offering free shipping until 30 September, so it is a good time to buy.

I haven't decided if I'm going with one or two purchases of the Girl Scouts Centennial Young Collectors Set, but I know for a fact, that I'm not buying the Girls Scouts Proof because of the much higher mint sales numbers for the proof right now. Its 80k for the proof and 30k for the uncirculated now.

So I'm going for the circulated with the lesser number sold and I'll go with the Young Collectors packaging. I'm hoping there might be a premium added for the packaging later on but I don't know, actually, its just more fun and appealing than the regular case to me.

But what has gotten my attention from the mint is the 5-Star Generals Profile Collection.

What I thought was a little pricey at first seems very reasonable now because if I'm not mistaken, $10 for the silver dollar and $5 for the half dollars goes to the Command and General Staff College Foundation making the mint take in roughly $60 for the set which looks like a reasonable offering plus the $15 goes to a great organization. But yeah, its still 75$ either way you cut it.

The packaging on the 5 star set really got my attention and I'll be buying one of these. So again, I'll be skipping the proof and buying the circulated for the lesser mintage numbers something like 50k/21k right now? Although I have seen the proof and I love the mirror like finish, I'm going with the uncirculated.

And again I like this packaging much better than the bland case.

Sales for the Girl Scouts Young Collectors Set continue to be very slow. The product's been available for about a month now and the total number sold is just 3,020!

I wasn't expecting a quick sell-out, but I did think it would do a bit better than it has so far.

In contrast, the "Profile Collection" for the 5-Star Generals coins had sold more than 3,500 in roughly one week of availability.

Priority #1 concerning this years additions is to acquire price adjustable silver products from the mint like the 5 oz pucks and the annual silver sets while the prices are still down from the last silver price reduction.

The Mint stopped offering last year's commeratives in mid December, so my plan is to get the Young Collectors Set and the 5 generals set right around the time of the last 5oz in this years series, Mt Rushmore in November.

If I'm not buying a 5oz puck from the mint, next on the shopping list would be the annual silver sets that seem like a better deal to me than the commerative stuff right now. I read somewhere recently that the annual silver proof sets will be continued until next year unlike last year but I would rather get them at the current prices.

I really like the designs of this year's comms and there is a following for girl scouts memorabilia and a huge, huge following for WW2 goods so there will be interest in the items in the future but they are the last of my priorities right now.
