We currently have over 200 members of the forum. Not all are active, that's OK.
I recommend that when we have a contest that the winner begins the next contest.
Prize is not that important it does not have to be a coin, could be some thing trivial like six 2x2s just as long as it is coin related.
Then maybe we could have a contest each week and not have the same people have to do it each time.
I would like your thoughts on this?

Sorry, but I DO NOT like this idea. Contests should be fun. It should NOT have any requirements pushed onto the winner.

Just thinking out loud
Maybe I should stop thinking.

Never stop thinking. I've certainly considered running a contest, but really have nothing cool to part with (99.9% of my coins are in the family collection, and the others are just decent circulating examples). But if people don't mind crappy awards, I can try to figure something out. I'll try to run something in a couple of weeks, when I get back from vacation. Regards, ~neuron

Thankx This is all I was trying to do no rules just right the more people involved the more we learn & maybe have some fun no offense taken to NDs remarks- I understand his pont of view as well, but now you are also involved. who knows we may develop a traveling booby prize just to keep contest going - like a trophy

Please don't stop with the ideas. Don't let my comments stop the process. If the majority of people want such a contest then go with it. I have found that if people are required to participate, it keeps many out. I like random contests/winners as it is available for anyone to participate. I always received good participation on the other forum with this type of contest. I do not mind hosting them pretty regularly, but I don't wish to keep others out.

I am in agreement with ND that I wouldn't want any rules or pressures but it is something to think about if you happen to win a contest. Sometimes, I think people are a little intimidated thinking they don't have anything good to give away but I think that doesn't matter in the least what the prize is. Having the contest is the fun part and getting anything free in the mail is cool. ;)
On rcc, that was pretty much the standard thing to do - have a contest if you won a contest - athough there were no rules and no pressures to do it. It is just something that people did most of the time.
On CP, they just seem to spring up randomly and no pressures either way there either. A couple of people run a lot of contests and then a few will spring up randomly as people get comfortable with it.
I mentioned to Susan that I have been wanting to run a contest here but I have been waiting for a lull.

Hi all, I really enjoy the contests. Personally, I prefer the type that teach me something or are interesting rather than the "random draw" type. I've enjoyed them all. Any prize is nice, to me. An old or interesting coin, even if not valuable, is worth it to me. I like the ones I've gotten- and the ones I've used as prizes have not been very valuable- worth from 3-35 dollars! And I'd prefer that folks sponsor contests as the spirit moves them-although I like having one weekly- Don

I think it should remain voluntary. I think the catch to winning may keep some away from the contest! Mike

would anyone like to be the contest director ?
Perhaps as a pool we could keep the contest prizes stocked by sending them to a central place and person ,,this would allow those who maybe timid about running a contest to help supply the contest with prizes but no pressure to actually run a contest.
we use this method in the RC club, it works well, contest director could be a two month or three month position and then someone else could take over to keep burn out from being a problem ..

Just putting in my two bobs worth here for member's consideration. In the Aussie Coins,Tokens and Banknotes Forum, we have a "Perpetual Giveaway" that is drawn each month. This giveaway is donated by a member. Rules are straight forward and are as follows: * Once donated, the Giveaway becomes the property of the Forum. * Winners are only "custodians" of the Giveaway until the next draw. * It is then incumbent of the "custodian" to conduct a draw, sign the Card that accompanies the prize and then forward it on to the next winner and so on.
