Hi All,

I find all my coins using a metal detector. Been detecting for 29 years. Anyways I found this 1849 Large Cent this past weekend and saw there are lots of varieties in this year. So I was seeing if anyone could attribute this coin to a variety. Oh by the way I am a new member and I have been reading awhile and enjoy all your postings.

The variety characteristics for that year are typically subtle details like die scratches long covered in corrosion. Perhaps it can be narrowed down to a few possibilities based on date position.

Thanks I forgot to mention as probably can be seen the bottom of the 9 in the dates ends into a thin line, where most of the ones I have seen posted on the internet end into almost a heavy dot like look. I don't know if this helps, but it is what I have observed.

good observation, but all varieties end in a dot. Must be it was either grease filled or got damaged. Just as a stab in the dark, I'd say N-23 but don't quote me on that.

A little off topic, and I'm sorry, but thats an amazing find with a metal detector! Just curious, have you found any other rare coins like that one?
