Is it a real zinc penny? Another one here from grandpa's collection. Thanks all in advance!

Hey sudz! Thanks for looking! No, the edge doesn't look like that. What should I be looking for with the edge? I can post a pic later of the edge.

Unplated cents are notoriously tough to authenticate, especially circulated ones. I don't see any bumps which is good, but IMO, if this was being sold raw, I'd pass on it. I'd love to know if it's possible to determine if an unplated cent is genuine or not just by using a loupe.. considering I'll be getting a couple in the mail soon. My knowledge on them is that you need to check for tiny bumps using a microscope. Let me just grab one from my back pocket..

Thanks guys. I'm gonna try to post some more pics tonight. The pics don't seem to really the silver look too well.

Looking back on this, you have to wonder why a 1995 cent got so worn. Especially if it was kept in a collection for some time I assume. I was initially thinking manually deplated, but I think John1 has it right.

Well, the rim is different then my fake was, but the body of the coin has a lot of bumpiness which I believe means the outer layer was purposely dissoved. Sadly, I think it is PMD. You might want to wait for someone who knows more than I to respond before doing anything with it. I hope I am wrong...

Thanks Sudz! I appreciate your advice! I'm not counting on it being genuine but it would be great if it was. Even if it was a genuine error, it probably wouldn't carry much premium would it?

What is the weight?
I'm thinking it was handmade by someone bored or trying to pull a leg.
Because the coin has shine rimes from the edge and from the front view. So that could mean they were sanding it or rubbing it down with something. I know sandpaper would mark it up but just giving examples of things like that.

Alight thank! I was thinking it should be like 2.3. But maybe I'm just wrong.
